The Overseas Faculty Development Day is a highly informative event designed for senior doctors and organisations who have a strong interest in internal medicine training and wish to understand more about how this has been developed and delivered in the UK. The event is also highly informative for those who wish to learn more about the opportunities for international support from the Joint Royal Colleges of Physicians Training Board (JRCPTB). On September 1st 2021, due to the ongoing impact of the COVID 19 pandemic, this event was held online for this first time; with a video recording of the entire event taking place.
More about the event
The 2021 Overseas Faculty Development Day was a half day online event introducing key elements of UK Internal Medicine Training and Examinations. The event was designed to give participants a fuller, more in-depth understanding of the UK Internal Medicine Training Stage 1 curriculum as well as the MRCP(UK) Diploma. Particularly how it is governed, structured, assessed and delivered. The event was recorded within the context of, and makes reference to, some extraordinary short term measures put in place to ensure continuity of training and progression of UK Internal Medicine trainees during the COVID 19 pandemic. International colleagues running JRCPTB Accredited Training programmes found this event invaluable in gaining an in-depth understanding of requirements and expectations of modern, competency based education.

Internal Medicine Training (Stage 1)
Internal Medicine Training (Stage 1) forms the first stage of specialty training for most doctors training in physicianly specialties, and prepares trainees for participating in the acute medical take at a senior level and managing patients with acute and chronic medical problems in outpatient and inpatient settings. The curriculum for IMT Stage 1 was approved by the UK General Medical Council (GMC) in December 2017 and replaced Core Medical Training (CMT) from August 2019. It is a three year programme which prepares doctors to become a medical registrar and provides them with the skills needed to manage patients presenting with a wide range of general medical symptoms and conditions.
