2 Nov: The GMC has published the report of its 2011 survey of trainees. The full results are survey are available here.
Clarification on dual specialty accreditation
1 Nov: Following recent queries, we would like to clarify the rules around dual accreditation. When a trainee is completing two specialties having been appointed to a dual programme, they are not allowed to receive their certificates of completion at different times. Section 6.32 of the 2010 Gold Guide clarifies this in detail.
GMC statement on Less than full-time training
20 Oct: This position statement conveys the decision of the GMC's Postgraduate Board to reinstate a minimum time requirement of 50% for doctors in specialty training who work on a less than full-time basis.
JRCPTB communications survey is now closed
12 Oct: Thank you to everyone who took part in the survey. We will be contacting the lucky recipient of the £50 worth of vouchers soon. We hope to publish the findings of the survey by the end of the year.
MRCP(UK) and ST3 recruitment in 2012

ATDG Statement on Training Principles
28 Jun: The Academy Trainee Doctors' Group have produced a position statement on the principles to guide postgraduate medical education. The Department of Health has set out a new vision for the NHS in "Liberating the NHS: Developing the Health Care Workforces". In response to this and the publication of "The Trainee Doctor" by the GMC the ATDG have defined a set of principles they believe should shape postgraduate medical education into the next decade.
Changes to Core Medical Training curriculum
17 Jun: Please note major changes have been made to the 2009 CMT curriculum including that passing MRCP Part 1 by the end of CT1 is desirable. These changes will apply to all trainees entering CMT from August 2011 onwards. Please click for more details.
RCP survey shows fall in CCT holders gaining posts
10 Jun: There has been a fall in the number of CCT holders gaining substantive consultant posts, a 2011 RCP survey shows. The number of CCT holders gaining such posts fell by 3.4%, since 2010, according to the RCP's Survey of Medical CCT Holders' Career Progression 2009-11. The survey also showed evidence of unemployed CCT holders for the first time. Read the full report.
GMC extends ruling on validity of exams taken outside training
2 Jun: The GMC has agreed that doctors who are in specialty training or who enter specialty training by 31st October 2013 will be able to have any valid passes in previously approved national professional examinations counted towards a CCT, even if they were obtained outside approved training.
New GMC publication: The Trainee Doctor
12 Apr: The GMC has just launched a new publication, The Trainee Doctor which sets out the standards for foundation and specialty training for doctors. This guidance is aimed at deaneries, bodies involved in medical education and training, trainees, trainers and employers. A copy can be downloaded by clicking this link. 9 Mar: JRCPTB has issued a clarification of its policy on the counting of LAT posts towards specialty training for StRs.
Liberating the NHS: Developing the Healthcare Workforce
2 Mar: JRCPTB has responded to the Department of Health's consultation on proposals to establish a new framework for the healthcare workforce. The consultation will close on 31st March 2011.

17 Feb: JRCPTB has announced an increase of 3.1% to the enrolment fee, effective from 1st April 2011.

2010 curriculum transfer process
3 Sep: It is now possible for trainees currently in posts up to ST5* on the 2007 version of their specialty curriculum to be considered for transfer to the 2010 version.

ACCS days for trainees & trainers
26 Jul: The Intercollegiate Committee for ACCS Training has scheduled three ACCS events, to be held at the Royal College of Anaesthetists.
GMC agrees way forward for trainees on examinations
13 Jul: The GMC has confirmed that it will be felxible and pragmatic in applying rules about when examinations can be taken. A joint statement has been produced to address concerns raised by trainees.
Response to trainee concerns over enrolment fee increase
7 Jul: This statement has been prepared in response to concerns being expressed by trainees following the recent announcement of an increase in training fees by £28 per annum.

Survey of job prospects for new medical CCT holders 2008-2010
9 Jun: The Medical Workforce Unit of the Royal College of Physicians has completed its survey for recent CCT holders in Medicine to monitor progress towards consultant posts. Here are the published results.
Timing of MRCP(UK) and progress to ST3
4 June: With the introduction of the General Internal Medicine Curriculum 2009 it became essential that UK trainees have the full MRCP(UK) (Parts 1 and 2 Written and the Clinical Examination PACES) in order to progress to an ST3 post.
Interim response to concerns about JRCPTB fees increase
19 May: The JRCPTB is aware of the dismay expressed by some trainees following the recent announcement of an increase in fees payable to the JRCPTB.
GMC to meet Colleges and trainees on examinations taken outside approved postgraduate training
30 Apr: The GMC is to review the legal requirement for exams to be taken 'during or upon completion' of an approved training programme for them to count towards the award of a CCT.
