ST3 scores for Palliative Medicine

The Physician Specialty Recruitment Office based in Health Education England (HEE) has encountered an error in the processing of scores for ST3 palliative medicine.

We understand that they will work with the small number of trainees affected and are contacting them to enable them to receive an updated offer, which for most will be a higher preference. All applicants who have already received an offer in palliative medicine will continue to have a specialty training placement.

Professor Andrew Goddard, Chair of the Federation board and President of the Royal College of Physicians, London said:

'We were made aware of this issue with recruitment for palliative medicine yesterday by Health Education England (HEE). Whilst recruitment is not under our control we are keen to support the affected trainees and the system to resolve the issue as quickly as possible. As such we have been liaising with both HEE and the Association of Palliative Medicine to ensure that the profession and the specialty are involved.

We welcome the statement by HEE on their website and the commitment that no trainee will be adversely affected by this error. We are also reassured that an investigation is being carried out into what went wrong and that steps will be put in place to reduce the chance of such errors happening again.'
