Enrolment with JRCPTB

On entering higher training programmes in the medical specialties all trainees must enrol with JRCPTB within 3 months of being appointed. The JRCPTB has responsibility for monitoring the progress of trainees throughout their training and ultimately for recommending to the Postgraduate Medical Education Training Board of their CCTs. Without enrolment monitoring cannot proceed and the CCT award will be put at risk. Those applying in excess of 3 months after appointment risk having their CCT date put back.

PLEASE NOTE: The Federation of Royal Colleges of Physicians of the UK has been obliged to increase the fees charged for enrolment with the JRCPTB.    This decision has not been taken lightly but has been necessary to support the Colleges’ role in setting the standards for, and supporting trainees through, specialist training to the award of CCT.   The advent of new patterns of training, revised curricula, quality assurance and assessment demanded by the PMETB, have meant that the amount and complexity of work the JRCPTB will have to do in key areas has substantially increased.  At the same time the grant money received annually from the Department of Health to underpin this work has declined significantly, and the Colleges have to take account of this in their financial planning.  Please see below for details of the increase.

SpRs are asked to complete an SpR enrolment form and return it to the JRCPTB office at the address shown.

In order to complete this form, you will need to contact the Postgraduate Dean's office responsible for your appointment. You will need to obtain from them: a signed copy of your RITA form A, your National Training Number and either the Postgraduate Dean's/Regional Specialty Advisor/Medical Personnel's signature. These act as confirmation of your appointment.

Entry Requirements for Higher Medical Training

To apply for HMT in the UK you must have the MRCP(UK) or its equivalent and a minimum of two years General Professional Training (GPT).

If you hold a qualification, apart from the MRCP (UK), please enclose a photocopy of the certificate. When completing the section on your posts, please ensure that you state the exact dates that you held each post. This information is essential in calculating your CCT date.
