Important information for all Core Medical Trainees applying for ST3 posts commencing August 2011
CORE MEDICAL TRAINEES MUST HAVE FULL MRCP(UK) PRIOR TO ENTRY TO ST3 POSTS FROM AUGUST 2011
The PMETB has recently approved the curriculum for General (Internal) Medicine (to be known as General Internal Medicine 2009 (GIM 2009)). Included in this is the curriculum for Core Medical Training (CMT), and importantly, the knowledge assessment for CMT has been confirmed to be acquisition of the full MRCP(UK) Diploma. The new curriculum has been published and is available here. Doctors entering CMT from August 2009 will not be able to have confirmation of their CMT competences and to exit successfully from the programme until they have the full MRCP(UK). They may need to have further training to achieve this (after negotiation with Programme Directors and their Postgraduate Dean).
The Joint Royal Colleges of Physicians Training Board (JRCPTB) have accepted that from August 2011, possession of the full MRCP(UK) will become a mandatory requirement for ST3 entry into any of the medical (physicianly) specialties. Candidates currently in UK training should note that doctors entering CMT from August 2009 will not be able to exit successfully from the programme until they have the full MRCP(UK). Candidates expecting confirmation of any MRCP(UK) Examination results in time for application to ST3 posts will need to refer to the MRCP(UK) website for information about result release dates.
The last opportunity for candidates to sit and receive their results by April 2011 is expected to be:
MRCP(UK) Part 2 Written Examination: 2010/3 diet (24 & 25TH November 2010)
MRCP(UK) PACES: 2011/1 diet (Main assessment period: mid February - March 2011).
Junior doctors may wish to note this information when planning their attempts for MRCP(UK) Examinations. Regulations for MRCP(UK), including entry requirements, can be found at www.mrcpuk.org

Important Notice Regarding Increase in PMETB Fees - 26/02/2009
Following the completion of the PMETB fees consultation and subject to approval from the Department of Health and Parliament, the CCT fee will be increased from £780 to £805 and the article 11 and 14 Assessments will be £1,905. Both of these fees are effective from 01/04/09. This means that applications which are received by the PMETB on or after 01/04/09, will be subject to the higher fee.
PMETB Partners
The PMETB have called for more trainees to become PMETB Partners. If you are interested, please email Sarah.Hawkes@odgers.com or phone on 44 (0) 121 654 5928.
Important Notice Regarding Training Fee Restructure - 01/11/07
The Joint Royal Colleges of Physicians Training Board (JRCPTB) has changed its fee structure to better meet the needs of trainee doctors. The previous fee of £875 which had to be paid in full at entry can now be divided into two elements - £250 for Core Medical Training and £625 for Specialist Training. This will lessen the financial burden for younger doctors as they begin training to be a physician.
The change will take immediate effect, and any ST1 or ST2 trainee who has already paid the full fee of £875 will be refunded £625. ST3s already enrolled may claim back £250.
Trainees wishing to do this should contact the Board on 020 3075 1283.
In addition to the changes, the Board will be reviewing other payment options in future, together with a refund policy.

Specialist Registrar(SpR) Enrolments - Increase in Fees
The Federation of Royal Colleges of Physicians of the UK has been obliged to increase the fees charged for enrolment with the JRCPTB. This decision has not been taken lightly but has been necessary to support the Colleges’ role in setting the standards for, and supporting trainees through, specialist training to the award of CCT. The advent of new patterns of training, revised curricula, quality assurance and assessment demanded by the PMETB, have meant that the amount and complexity of work the JRCPTB will have to do in key areas has substantially increased. At the same time the grant money received annually from the Department of Health to underpin this work has declined significantly, and the Colleges have to take account of this in their financial planning. The increased fees are as follows and apply to enrolment forms which are received at the JRCPTB on or after 01/08/07 (if you have sent your application to us and it is pending, please email Enrolments for clarification).
