Role of the medical registrar - a survey conducted by the Medical Workforce Unit

The Medical Workforce Unit at the Royal College of Physicians of London is embarking on a new project exploring the roles of the medical registrar, particularly during on calls and overnight. Within the project, we hope to define some of the clinical and non-clinical activities of medical registrars working in England and identify areas of good and bad practice.   The aim is to establish how medical registrars' knowledge and skills can be best utilised to enhance patient care.

We are planning to launch a questionnaire to all medical registrars in September 2011. This will be followed by a series of visits to a range of teaching and district general hospitals around the country.

We are keen to conduct this project in collaboration with as many interested groups as possible. We welcome any correspondence highlighting topical issues, areas of particular concern, or local success stories.  Please circulate this to your colleagues in your specialty.
