Those enrolling substantive specialty posts will get a separate e-mailed letter confirming the type and date of accreditation the JRCPTB has registered you for, plus the curriculum you should be following. This letter will be produced by the Certification and Trainee Services (CTS) Team, any questions about this step should be sent directly to the person responsible for trainees in your deanery. The contact details for the CTS team can be found at on the About Us page.
Why do I need to enrol with the JRCPTB?
Section 2.14 of the "Gold Guide" states ‘all doctors in training should enrol/register with the relevant Royal College/Faculty so that:
- Progress in their training can be kept under review and supported where required
- Eligible trainees can be recommended to the GMC for consideration of award of a CCT at the end of specialty training.'
The "Gold Guide" contains all the information about how a specialty training programme should be organised, supported and delivered and covers all training in Specialty Registrar grades.
Failure to enrol your post with the JRCPTB within three months of your start date may result in:
- Your post not counting towards your CCT and subsequently, delaying your completion of training
- The JRCPTB not being able to undertake any activities to support your training such as prospectively approving periods of out of programme and recommending trainees for accreditation
- Your ePortfolio account being locked
- Failing your ARCP
- Withdrawal of the option for paying the JRCPTB fee in instalments.
Notice to LATs
Appointees to Locum Appointments for Training (LAT) who envisage the possibility of later entry to a Specialty Training Programme in a medical specialty, and wish this period to be counted, must enrol with JRCPTB. Unless approval by JRCPTB is obtained prospectively, training undertaken during tenure of a LAT cannot count towards a CCT.
You must notify JRCPTB when your appointment has finished and return the LAT Educational Approval Form.
You will then be sent a letter confirming the amount of educational credit that you have acquired.
If you are appointed to a second or subsequent LAT you must re-enrol using the Online Enrolment System.
Please refer to our published LAT policy for full details on the award of credit for these posts.
